Welcome to Black Sheep Farm – JA’s dilapidated 1.9 acre property featuring 5 buildings of various size and purpose.
[JA = Julianne = Crazy Person]
[Dilapidated = in a state of disrepair or ruin as a result of age or neglect]
It’s a fine line between “disrepair” and “ruin”. I am not now, nor have ever truly been, sure WHICH side of the line Black Sheep Farm is on. The effort to restore Black Sheep Farm is the result of a somewhat “Hope” based assessment that it’s on the “Disrepair” side of dilapidated and therefore can be “repaired”. I have consulted many construction/remodel knowledgeable-type people and they all sort-of, hesitantly, with many disclaimers and caveats, agree. Kind-of. Of the outside assessments made about the situation, this is my favorite – “Well…ANYTHING can be done with enough time, money and fortitude.” – Paul Witherspoon.
I’m hoping having PLENTY of fortitude will get us through. Because THAT’S what we have enough of. Anyhoo – unless you’ve made the trek out to Black Sheep Farm, the SCALE of the restoration is huge and complicated. Restoring a house is convoluted enough, but add 3-4 more battered buildings, and it’s ridiculous. Maybe we should take a word+pictures tour! Let’s start with my totally awesome map of the property. It’s one of the great artistic offerings OF MY ENTIRE LIFE, BTW.

Here’s some fancy aerial shots from the listing. They may be prettier, but my map is way WAY cooler.
When you turn off the main road up the driveway, being careful to avoid the sinkhole that ate my car, the first thing you see is is farmhouse and next to it, the garage.
Then, you head up property and run into the bigass barn, the greenhouse behind the house, and farther upland is the manifesto shed.
OK – Wow. Now, you are totally oriented and can enjoy the unfolding home-restoration entertainment that is Black Sheep Farm from the comfort of your own home.
There’s been a lot of discussion about “Milt” and “Milt’s tiny house” which is situated sorta between the garage and the bigass barn but back towards where the neighbor’s goats live. Errrrr…..I mean, if you REALLY want the WHOLE Black Sheep Farm greatness – you kinda need to make the journey…..
Fantastic map! I see a new career as a map drawer in your future.
